An Open Letter to

Those People Concerned

About Their Energy Bills

We all have plenty of worries about the upcoming heating season, since many of us have already seen price quotes for heating oil and propane.  And, we all have concerns about the environment.

There are cost effective ways that you can cut your need for energy, and help the environment at the same time.  Blodgett Supply, working in partnership with our contractor customers, can save you money on your energy bills, and help you go green at the same time.  Here are some ideas for you to contemplate:

  1. Solar Hot Water:  The single fastest payback you can get for an energy conservation investment is by installing a solar hot water system from Blodgett.  Our case studies show that most families can cut their hot water heating costs by 70%, and get a 5-7 year payback on their investment.  In fact, the financial case for solar is so strong that you will probably never be out of pocket for your investment, and CAN save upwards of $40,000 over the life of the system.  Rebates for residential installs are about 30%, and as of now are scheduled to expire in December 2008!  Act now!

If you are a commercial property owner, federal and state incentives to install solar will reduce your cost of installation by more than 50%!   As of now, these incentives are also set to expire at the end of December, 2008!

  1. Wood Pellet Boilers:  Wood pellets provide energy at about one third the cost of oil or gas.  By early September, Blodgett will be delivering a sophisticated European pellet boiler for central heating applications.  This boiler is superior to anything now available on the US market, operates at 94% efficiency, and requires virtually no maintenance.  Blodgett is now taking deposits for delivery of these units.
  2. Oil and Gas Boiler & Furnace Replacements:  A qualified heating contractor can inspect your current central heat installation to advise you;  but our experience shows that it is possible to save 20% or more by replacing your old equipment with a new boiler or furnace.  As a rule of thumb, if your system is more than 10 years old, you are a candidate to consider this option.  Naturally, you should be performing annual maintenance and cleaning of your existing system as an interim step.
  3. Wood Boilers for Central Heat: If you are contemplating heating your home with wood, Blodgett stocks a high efficiency wood boiler, available for immediate delivery.  Take advantage of Vermont’s abundant supply of fuel.
  4. Energy Management:  Blodgett offers a variety of energy management controls, which can increase the efficiency of your system by 5-15%.
  5. New Generation Toilets:  Toto, the leader in water conserving toilets that really do work, has introduced a new generation of High Efficiency Toilets (HET).  These toilets use 1.28 gallons per flush, compared to 3.5 gallons for pre 1987 toilets, and the 1.6 gallon flush toilets that have been sold for the past twenty years.  Tests show these toilets work as well as the renowned current Toto models!  Not only will you save water, but you will save energy:  research has shown that the collection, movement, and treating of water consumes 15% of a municipality’s energy bill!  These toilets are now in stock at Blodgett.

If you would like to explore any of these cost and energy saving ideas, we encourage you to contact us, via our "Ask John" link.  Please tell us your area of interest, including information on your existing systems.  We will have a qualified contractor contact you to discuss an immediate installation.
